Hi Mihai and welcome aboard,
Mine is also a PD06, 1993 year model, which is identical to yours (apart from the colour).
There is plenty of used spare part stores here in Athens.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are looking for something specific and we can be of any help to you.
PS: I have visited many times in the past the city of Bucharest. A nice and beautiful city indeed. Where exactly are you located in Romania?

hello,
i'm from Ploiesti,60km north from bucarest,i'm 36 y o,automotive engineer,
my first bike was a Moto Guzzi V35C 1983, http://www.motociclism.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=37028&st=40#
and after 4 years and 20 000 km,a good friend told me at the phone:
"i'm just looking at your new bike".I told him ...no , i love my guzzi,i don't need another bike...
a few days after .....(after a lot of white nights)...the transalp dream becomes true
and now i love my transalp. :goofy:
about the spare parts...here is diferrent,i wait for 3weeks for a odometer cable
i 'm interested by a new tyre, a metzeler tourance 130/80-r17 ,if you can tell me a price .... for analizing if
here is more expansive price or no
thanks you all
-
My name also is Mihail, I also have a moto-guzzi V50 Monza and I have been to Ploiesti twice as I used to have a girlfriend there. I plan to come again some time. Welcome then.
PS. I have an odometer cable for TA available already, which I can give you for free, but shit, I am in Finland right now for a few months :-[ :-[

the principal idea is to come together with Pagalos in your city in spring time.
I m waiting him to return from the dark, cold and not civilized North in our Balkan paradise.
-
very good ideea,
in spring, at Ploiesti we are waiting you,at MOTORRock Festival,

Hi Mihai,
1) The odometer cable is in stock and readily available (same day) from our local Honda dealer. But as I understand, you have already ordered it and waiting for it to arrive.
2) Are you looking only for the rear tire (130/80-17) or the front one (90/90-21) as well?
-
1.rear tire 130/80/17
i have now a METZELER TOURANCE,is a very good tyre on wet or dry roads ,stoned or no, Metzeler sahara was a second option,if the price is nearly tourance, because in romania beautifull places are away from the good roads, and you need to cross mud and sand .
2.abot the odometer cable,is arrived a week ago, thank you, anyway
-
1.rear tire 130/80/17
Hi Mihai,
An indicative price for the Metzeler Tourance 130/80-17, here in Athens, is €114 (including a 10% discount for our Club members; regular price €127).
Please note that also the Metzeler Tourance 120/90-17 fits perfectly in the rear rim of your TA600, and an indicative price is €107 (including a 10% discount for our Club members; regular price €119)

Cunosti data exacta ?
Moto si Rock sint foarte importante pentru mine.

If you intend to drive in mud a lot, my advice then is not to choose sahara. They are definitely improper for mud! I've had very bad experience with them in mud. Some pals say they like them, but they are probably talking about different driving conditions.
Very good idea to visit motorock festival at Ploiesti in spring.

Deal!

1) How easy is for us to find acomodation without reservation (incl camping) in these locations
2) maybe you can give us ideeas about beautiful places, because we want to spend 2-3 days before and 2-3 days after ITT visiting different places in Greece.(anyway,in our way back to home we included Meteora and Mount Olimp)
-
hello,again,transalpers
Buna ziua prietenilor.
Totul in perioada respectiva e foarte usor.
un calduros salut.
Zahos.
-

Mihai you do not have to make any reservation at this time of the year, do not worry.
For your way back home we can propose you some very beautiful places to visit. It is better to discuss it in Parga so do not forget to have with you some good maps of Northern Greece.
PS: Don't forget to send us the money for the ITT as soon as possible!!!
-

Hello Mihai
Welcome, my friend in Greek Transalp Forum.
It’s really nice to know that there are people in other countries too, which love same things with me : Transalp and traveling.
I’ve been in your country three times already, in ’96 and ’98 for a Dance Festival ( I’m a dancer in various folk groups ). Yet, what will stay in my memory forever is ’99 when I came in Romania for the total solar eclipse with my wife. We have driven for about 2200 klm and been in Boukourest, Brasov, Cluz, Timisoara, Ramniku Valcea
We enjoyed the trip very much and we’ll probably do it again, sometime……
I hope to see you in 3 months in I.T.T 2008
Here I’m sending you some of the photos taken during the above mentioned trips.

for street use, looks to be excelent, but off road :eusa_naughty:
-the engine is to much exposed ,
-the rear silencer of the exhaust pipes is very low,reducing the ground clearance;
-forks - too exposed

excuse me for stress,
how much cost a cigarette pack in greece? and if it is any special rules for smokers ?ex: no smoking in public places or something else
thank you
PS in 29april ,romanian team will be on the road
-
2 euros the cheapest, 2.90 - 3 euros for most brands.
3 euros for a 25g tobacco pouch.
About the rules, it's still a smokers paradise. It's forbidden only in public services, hospitals, public transport and a couple of the worst tables in every bar.
-
thank you very much for information
see you soon
-
No problem, somebody had to tell you cause we got lots of non-smokers here ;D
Cheers

Salut,

baieti de aici sint imprastiati in toata tara de nordul ( Macedonia ) pina in sud ( Kreta ) si de vest ( insule de arcipelag Ionion ) pina la est unde sint insule de marea Egea si de unde ai sa traversezi in Turcia.
scrie directia si zilele si noi facem programul vostru cu doua sau trei alternative.
vremea in Septembrie e superba si cred ca ati ales luna cea mai potrivita pt o excursie in Grecia
raminem in contact
noroc si sanatate
" calatorul "
PS

Ideea e ca noi vrem sa stam in concediu 3 saptamani. Deci in Grecia sa zic ca stam vreo 7-8 zile. Directia este de la nord la sub. Adica intram in tara prin Fyrom si o luam spre Creta. Ma gandesc sa mergem cam 2-3 sute km. pe zi si eventual daca gasim un loc frumos pe parcurs sa stam doua zile acolo. Nu avem nimic planuit sau batut in cuie.
Multumesc mult.

Glumea?

hello, my friends
I'm back in Romania, after a long trip in Kriti( 2weeks and 4000km)
to say Thank you is too common,
words are not enough, pictures are just to remember places and events, but the most important things, the friendship , the human relations crossing any cultural or geographical border, the "brain connections" of peoples, the smell of a place , the taste of food, the pleasure to stay with friens drinking a cup of wine, that things will stay stored in the deep of the soul for lifetime

Hello, my friends
The story of this trip had the beginning some time ago, when I’ve saw a story about a bridge,on Discovery Channel.
A bridge built around the 1500 ac,destroyed in a war,and rebuilt ,stone by stone around the years 2003-2004.From that moment,I’ve wanted to see it with my eyes.I didn’t had any idea about the moment when I have to see this bridge, but I was sure about one thing: sometime ,in this life I will see this bridge.
Finally, at the end of this summer, when the holliday time was approaching, me and my wife, we’ve started to make plans. There is a story from ancients…if you want to make God to laugh, you will make plans for youself…So, it looks like our plans have been approved by Gods ,so at the right moment ,me, my wife and our old (but faithfull) Transalp we’ve started our travel.
To where? For the beginning, direction Serbia , in our way to Montenegro. The way out from Romania was a little difficult because we have made a wrong choise of the border point, and we have had to wait 3 hours for a Ferryboat. But ,in any bad thing you can find something good,in tha waiting time we ‘ve met a Romanian family estabilished in Montenegro and we’ve collected a lot of usefull informations
The first night of our trip was spent in a small- medium Serbian town, Krusevak
.http://picasaweb.google.com/ph91bks/1SerbiaDus# (http://picasaweb.google.com/ph91bks/1SerbiaDus#)
in the second day we ‘ve go on, to The National Parc Durmitor. (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-9k6C8r5I/AAAAAAAAAxs/2ke2b4Q4pPA/s640/durmitor%20%281%29.JPG)(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-9oH89SqI/AAAAAAAAAyA/BEpx3RDcZ74/s640/durmitor%20%286%29.JPG)
The bridge over Tara Canyon (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-9qVuQUvI/AAAAAAAAAyQ/jBUL7d2T1pw/s640/durmitor%20%289%29.JPG)seems so fragile, but so beautiful that you start to think that those who built it didn’t want to be put on shame in front of Mother Nature, which in turn offers a great show too, there
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_CAN6_C_I/AAAAAAAAA5w/k1aPJse_R1s/s640/canioane%20-moraca%20si%20tara%20%2818%29.JPG)
But , this is not the bridge about I ‘ve told you ,in the beginning of this story
Our short trip from Durmitor National Parc was wanderfull, the landsapes ,same.Imposible to be described by few pictures or words(http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-9uP5KdgI/AAAAAAAAAyw/k5lDwGqHHKQ/s640/durmitor%20%2817%29.JPG)(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-91KVL1pI/AAAAAAAAAzc/jMVC6vQ3Qnk/s640/durmitor%20%2828%29.JPG)
Following the direction (GPS helped) to Kotor Bay ,we went abot 40 km on a road that barely fit two cars, and then went on a normal road, with endless large curves….and all ends abruptly I wake up entering with 100 km/h at a gravel….but realy, realy gravel ….i feellike I will not ever be able to slow down, but lucky, my Transalp ,me neither are not alien of this variety of road ,and we managed to stop the bike in good condition.(http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-92edNTuI/AAAAAAAAAzo/89O0V4C0pjU/s640/durmitor%20%2831%29.JPG) (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-93GSrLVI/AAAAAAAAAzw/-_zPrdKiS7c/s640/durmitor%20%2832%29.JPG)(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-94fjQghI/AAAAAAAAAz8/vA3I4zv-CY0/s640/durmitor%20%2835%29.JPG)Is useless to tell you that my wife needed 5 minutes after our stop to came down from the bike, because of leg trembleing
http://picasaweb.google.com/ph91bks/2Durmitor?feat=directlink
Finally, at 7PM,in same time when the sun goes to sleep, the mountains left in our sides opened in front of us a magical landsape.(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-95WPUFiI/AAAAAAAAA0E/gd94ar5ErpM/s640/durmitor%20%2837%29.JPG)
We can only guess the real beauty of these landscapes, We searched and foud accommodation in one of the hundreds places withs ads of “SOBE” (rooms to let).We decided to end this day at a small “taverna” for eating a big portion of bean soup with pork “fumee” (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI-_jnJb2GI/AAAAAAAAA0s/IlMctU5pbp8/s640/kotor.JPG)
In the morning, looking from the window, I’ve had again the image of how small we are in the front of the nature . (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_ADkFGMAI/AAAAAAAAA34/EMKxKKwFfig/s800/kotor%20%2824%29.JPG)(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_AGaDIHXI/AAAAAAAAA4E/AXspVBsdTTY/s512/kotor%20%2827%29.JPG)
I spent 10 minutes to fill my heart with the images I had in front of my eyes.I make a confession…on this journey I left many times the camera away, preffering simply to watch what is around me,so that pictures can sometimes just remember what you saw,but no way to replace it or the feelings.
We decided to stay in this place around 3 days and to make trips around .We’ve started with a Kotor Bay (it seems to be the largest fjord in the south of Europe)tour.(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_AIMclriI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/Guxyukw-ib0/s800/kotor%20%2830%29.JPG)(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_AMLOLQHI/AAAAAAAAA4k/ryOKjot-eYM/s800/kotor%20%2835%29.JPG)(http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_AMi4inwI/AAAAAAAAA4o/Xk8_LhZ7GIQ/s800/kotor%20%2836%29.JPG)
We went by a ferry (very cheap,1,5 eur/bike) to Dubrovnik. (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_OyKcu2II/AAAAAAAAA6g/zAocbUBpoJA/s640/100_1335.JPG)
Dubrovnik, the old city, impeccably restored gave us a pleasant memory, (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_O858hMQI/AAAAAAAAA7g/W_tpQevqvCw/s640/100_1350.JPG)(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_O-3VmEKI/AAAAAAAAA7s/z-8k74FHAGI/s640/100_1353.JPG)
but more spectacular was the bridge at the exit to Split
(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TI_O0qq3mAI/AAAAAAAAA6w/cIB7bMWKVpE/s640/100_1339.JPG)
But neither this bridge isn’t the bridge I told you at first

How many borders can you meet in 100km? in the western Europe were disbanded and here ,in 100km I’ve passed 4.Here Montenegro ,few km away Croatia ,then Bosnia, then Croatia again,Bosnia again…at a moment I didn’t know in what country am i.
Talking about Bosnia ,the fact of travelling in a country wich was in a big war only few years ago, made my heart to beat faster.
Going forward,in the middle of this country,my heart's beatings become normal ,because I saw people like us,with theirs small agricultural machinery ,coming back from the work, small stores where you can find everything you want, from soap to building materials…then we crossed whole hectares of vineyards, nice and neat worked fields…then my eyes remained glued to a hill (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELju0wyCI/AAAAAAAAA9A/ruVihHXDbsU/s640/mostar.JPG)
where I saw a fortress and several old, surreal white houses and in their midst rises a minaret and a small mosque.Everything seemed so clean as if waited a head of state, but, no…is only the respect shown by these people to their faith and history
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELkpCLCAI/AAAAAAAAA9I/g_euoIvW4Vs/s640/mostar%20%282%29.JPG)
Going further into the landscape in which you can saw Christian and Muslim places of worship, one near other, I sat and wondered what these people had to divide, or rather who has managed to pit against each other on so long that to start war.(http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELmYCxzQI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/78omxzbLLaU/s640/mostar%20%284%29.JPG)
With these thoughts in mind I went into a city with a name so associated with war and suffering that I could hardly think of something else: Mostar
The images seen since the entrance of the city make my skin ants, even now .Almost all the buildings bears traces of bullets, of the rockets and other ammunition used in the war time.In downtown there are a lot of unrenovated buildings, partially demolished by rockets or bombs. Here everything is so real, and seeing the remnants of a war gone live in the middle of a Europe that wants to be sophisticated and modern, in the very 21st century ... you become full of an immeasurable frustration.
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELpGA59dI/AAAAAAAAA9c/9zAtO9DkqHI/s640/mostar%20%287%29.JPG)(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELpUmS1GI/AAAAAAAAA9g/FxNR5P0mmf4/s640/mostar%20%288%29.JPG)
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELs18KVeI/AAAAAAAAA94/e-Os9QWFF6g/s640/mostar%20%2822%29.JPG)(http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELtpFgHOI/AAAAAAAAA98/xrfNF5T8GvY/s640/mostar%20%2823%29.JPG)
Modern posters and outdoor ads try to hide the walls,
(http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9o36fzhI0W0/TJELm6mZwXI/AAAAAAAAA9U/TMb7GOxmd6A/s640/mostar%20%285%29.JPG)
We get going slowly through them in the old center ,walking on a street withch was the separating line between Christian and Muslim parts of city during the war
Mosques and minarets are everywhere, more often than any agglomeration of Christian churches ever seen by me.
and so many cemeteries ... Muslim, Christian ... too many and too full...i cannot took pictures
And so, slowly, filled with emotion ... I got to the bridge, THE BRIDGE who died in war and reborned after.

Formerly, the Stari Most was one of the most famous representative images of Bosnia, like construction which appears on stamps and postcards, with a proud nation. But the old bridge of the old Yugoslavia was destroyed by Croatian armed forces on November 9, 1993. There was clearly, to destroy the bridge, was an act of revenge, because in essence, the bridge had no military significance.
The Stari Most Bridge, a masterpiece of Ottoman Turkish architecture, was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by Mimar Hayruddin, a student of the famous Universities of Fine Arts Mimar Sinan. According to Atlas Obscura, construction began in 1557 and lasted nine years. After the war ended in Bosnia, the bridge was rebuilt, stone by stone, they were recovered by locals and experts of UNESCO even Neretva riverbed. Reopening the bridge took place on July 23, 2004.
People from here, however, it appears that they may forget how fast this war, but also want that others will not forget what happened .

in this pictures there are remains of croat rocket that destroyed StariMost in 1993
This is THE BRIDGE about I was telling you in the beginning ,and his story as I got it I put before you
But as life goes on and so my journey continues, and I will talk further, that there are still a lot to say

after a good sleep, next day destination was Podgorita
The road to Podgorita was full of natural beauties...words are'nt necessary

sometimes the landscapes looks like what i've saw in Crete ,last year
after eating a big pie in Podgorita, we'd decided to see what's with the big lake seen on map, nearby us.
road... trucks...road...trucks.....brake...turn left and go on... a small road seems to folow the lake .
if we know that you will follow, maybe we have hesitated a little, but have had many regrets
The Skadar Lake...44km long,7km wide (max),one of the last places in Europe with Pelican, the largest ornithological reserve in Europe, one of the last freshwater marshes in the Mediterranean Basin, the largest lake in the Balkans, one of the largest natural and historical attractions in Montenegro. The owner of all these superlatives is Lake Skadar.
The lake is home to one of the most diverse fish habitat in the Mediterranean area, the place where, in winter, the shelter finds a population of over 150,000 birds .also, is a part of the border with Albania.
Narrow road, which must action the horn before each turn, so you would not wake up nose to nose with another vehicle, looks like detached from the movies.

if you can see the truck..you will be able to imagine the real dimension of the mountains
from this rocky landscapes, the road goes directly in the middle of a jungle,a deep, dark and unbeliveble green forest

I stayed in that mountain peak more than a quarter of an hour and we could not believe what I saw ... first endless lake, on the other side ,the planet seems to want to explain us how mountains were formed

all these beauties made us to be tired, so we took the way to Kotor Bay... way to Kotor on the Adriatic coast scenery, passing through Budva resort ... beautiful, beautiful bright it looked like a huge airport but far, far too crowded for my feelings

And so ends our last day spent in this part of Motenegro.
The plan for the next day was to arrive in Mokra Gora National Park,in North Serbia, near the border with Bosnia where we want to see the famous narrow railway train with a Romanian made locomotive (engine).
the road passes through Moraca canyon , beautiful sceneries

Because i have not too much free time before and after the meeting, i'm thinking to take an airplane from Bucharest to Athena , rent a moto in Athena , and join the ITT.
Can you tell me how much can cost the motorbike rental for 3 days , and how early i have to make the bike reservation ?
see you soon

-
hello my friend mihaiBKS,
Look here you can find Transalp 600 (http://www.rentamoto.com/600.html) and the daily cost for 3 days is 52€.
So your total cost is 52 x 3 = 156€
From that offer you have to know that all Prices Include Insurance and 200km Per Day - Extra kilometers cost 0.18 € each
Also, read the first page (http://www.rentamoto.com/) for General rental terms....
best wishes

Hello Mihai...
nice to see you on the participants list.
Few years back, i remember some US TA riders, they invented a program of sharing a bike... like couch sharing.
Than mean, someone share his bike here at no cost and you share your bike at no cost in Romania.
I'm not sure is someone is able to do that in Greece, or if after that, if you are ready to do something like that in Romania.
But in any way, sounds to me as a good deal.
I presume that both riders they will treat the bikes seriously, as TA riders always do ;) .
-
@ Kostas...nice ideea ... but just an utopic ideea
the bike renting ....is a little to expensive for me (anyway thank for info)
so i think my bike will drink again some greek gasoline
see you soon, my friends

σχεδιάζουμε να επισκεφθεί την Ελλάδα τον Απρίλιο και θα θέλαμε να λάβει τα ποδήλατα στο ρυμουλκούμενο από το αυτοκίνητο, από την Κλούζ στην Πάτρα (ή κάπου γύρω από Πάτρα) και θα ήθελα να σας ρωτήσω αν μπορείτε να μας συμβουλές, αν είναι δυνατόν, όπου θα μπορούσαμε να αφήσει 3 αυτοκίνητα και 3 ρυμουλκά για μία εβδομάδα;
Hi Guys,
Sorry for bothering you, I am Alex from Romania I would have a question:
we are planning to visit Greece in April and we would like to take the bikes on a trailer by car, from Cluj to Patras (or somewhere around Patras) and we would like to ask you if you might advice us, if it is possible, where could we leave 3 cars and 3 trailers for one week?
Going by car it is our best and cheapest option and we are searching for maybe a parking place where we can pay or maybe a company which has a bit of free space in the parking place or a private place and we could leave the cars without bothering anybody.
Most probably there will be 3 cars with 2 trailers, 8 bikes (Transalp, Africa, 950, 990, Supertenere and Pegaso, big gang)
Otherwise, do you have plans for the 12-18 April? would you maybe like to join us? We would like to make some offroad tracks in Peloponnese.
Best wishes and thank you very much, Alex

You have chosen the right place (Peloponnese) the right time (Spring) for the right purpose (offroad)
I am sure you will find a solution in our forum.
Wish you all the best!

-
hi Alex,
If there is no big deal to drive by car till Kyparissia (south from Pyrgos), i have plenty of space (open field, dog secured)... free of charge
of course. During that days i will be in Kyparissia so, that would be easier for any arrangements you need.
Bear in mind that Sunday 12 of April is the Orthodox Easter, less traffic but drunk drivers will be everywhere.
If you are planing to stay in a tent the first or last day, this is not a problem at all.
After all, you can ask your suggestions for you trip here !
-
Hi Alex,
Isn't it easier (and cheaper) to ride the bikes to Greece instead of loading them on trailers ? Romania to Peloponnese is just 2 days riding...Just saying!
I can give you a lot of info for off roading in Peloponese, even come along with you for a day. I Live in Kalamata. What exactly do you have in mind as General plan? You have knobby tires on the bikes or not?

Hi Kostas,
Thank you very very much, thank you.
If we can bother you, we would be very glad to meet you and if we might also put some tents, it more than we were dreaming.
Thank you for the tip, most of us are also Orthodox and we pretty much know the Easter habits. We have these free days because of the Easter period, We will try to be careful on the roads.
We are planning to leave Saturday morning and we should be in your area Sunday at let say 14-15 o'clock. At the moment, we will be with 3 cars and 3 trailers, 8 bikes and 11 boys and girls. All of us friendly and simple, except for the guy who lives in Bucharest (joking)
Would you like/need something from Romania? beside some fresh tuica?
If it is not to much of a trouble can we have your address and phone nr.?
So, we took your invitation and we thank you very much for it, but in case you have any kind of second toughts or if your plans will change and we will make your life complicated, just please let us know. We thank you anyway.

Hi,
It is easier and cheaper to come with the bikes on the trailer. The gasoline is more expensive, it takes more time and the main reason is actually because we do not like that much the asphalt.
The bikes will be (or should be) well prepared for off road and we would like to make the tracks as technical as we can. Most of us are used with difficult roads.
If you have a bit of time please check here some of what we are searching for
http://www.heavyduties.ro/rideon/
It is true that we are a bit to many persons for these kind of tracks but we are old good friends and nobody is left behind.
In case you could advice us or join us or guide us we would be very glad.
Actually we feel very glad to be able to in contact with someone who shares our motorcycle vision.
We will try maybe to send you our track when we will have it and maybe you can tell us what you think. Maybe you could share some tracks? and we could do the same in case you will ever get to this parts.
Thank you very much to all of you guys.

Every option is open (advice, join, guide). Though I don't know yet if I will have time to spare for joining you a day or two. We will see...
First of all describe to me, if you already know, what areas, mountains, cities or other points of interest you would like to include in your route. Is it a dirt-only tour or you also want to visit ancient sites for example?
What do you use to navigate? GPS, maps or both? You should definately check this site out, best printed and digital maps for Greek mountains: http://www.anavasi.gr/products.php?lang=en&id=2&map_type=&area=14
and we could do the same in case you will ever get to this parts.
I was in Bulgaria last autumn...
...together with some pretty heavy beemers...

Hi
Three of us are colleagues at HeavyDuties and we usually ride together.
Thank you very very much for your support, I guess the best of our option would be if you could lead the path, if you might have the time.
We would like, if possible, to combine riding with visits, I saw that you have many great caves, waterfalls and gorges and lakes. We would also like to visit Mycenae and Sparta (or maybe you could advice us).
For navigation we use both maps and GPS, not knowing about anavasi, we ordered this mao http://www.bookdepository.com/Peloponnese/9789609456227?utm_source=SV-Body&utm_medium=email-Service&utm_term=Peloponnese_title&utm_content=order-details&utm_campaign=Order-confirmation
Hopefully we will have 6 days on the bikes.
In 2-3 days I will be able to share our proposed track, maybe you will have a bit of time to tell your opinion about it.
Delightful photo, thank you for sharing, a taste from our side

Thank you very much and a great weekend to all of you guys.

I will try to do that for 13 and/or 14 April but it's a long shot.

If you arrive on the 12th and leave on the 18th, that means you have 5 full days. It is quite difficult to combine off-roading and visiting sites like Mycenae. Mycenae for example is at North East corner of Peloponnese and Kyparissia at the South West corner. It's impossible to cover that distance, by doing dirt tracks, in 5 days. Unless you do big asphalt jumbs in between. It's more realistic to plan covering half of Peloponnese (north/south half or west/east half). Send me an email at fotisalp#otenet.gr and we can tailor something out. Do you use Skype? Maybe we could talk Monday evening and give you some suggestions.

This map is very good for the asphalt jumbs but not for dirt roads on the mountains. Maybe we could arrange for you to receive some anavasi maps upon your arrival?
In 2-3 days I will be able to share our proposed track, maybe you will have a bit of time to tell your opinion about it.
I am looking forward, send it to my mailbox.

Great photo! Fortunately in Peloponnese mud like that is not very common, terrain is rather rocky. There are exceptions of course! That's a good thing (not having to deal with too muddy roads) when there are 8 bikes involved, loaded with camp gear, some with two passengers and time pressing!

Hello everyone!
I want to start by thanking Kostas and Fotis for their hospitality. They took us “under their wing” once we arrived in Peloponnese, although they didn’t know much about us, and we are very grateful to them.
We had been planning a visit to Peloponnese in December but soon realized that no matter how South Europe you go, winter is still winter and it would have been a pity to not be able to go up in your beautiful mountains because of snow.
Taking advantage of the Easter holyday and the free time we could take from work, and encouraged by the comments on the forum about the beauty of the Peloponnese by spring time, we gathered our friends and we were ready to go.
So the story of our motorbike adventure starts on the 10th of April, actually it is the car adventure that starts on the 10th. We all left work a bit early, got the bikes on the trailers and excited we set a meeting point in the heart of Romania, as we are all scattered throughout the country. The plan is to drive all night and day and arrive at Kostas in Kyparissia just before the midnight of 11 and maybe join Kostas and his family for church.
Of course the plans we made home didn’t hold for long once we were on the road. Some people were late because they couldn’t leave work, then we were sleepy and then we were hungry. 26 hours later, and 1:00 am we arrived at Kyparissia, just in time for Kostas to arrive from church and to welcome us in his family olive garden and home.
We had a delicious traditional Easter dinner organized for us by Kostas’s family which we were very grateful for accompanied by wine and accommodation. I have to admit that we felt a bit shy, worried that we could be an inconvenience, and hope we did not disturbed too much everyone in the house, because 11 people can be much at the one time. For us it was a very nice experience. Thank you so much!
In the morning we tried to wake up as soon as possible and leave before we could bother Kostas and his family too much again, but it took us again one hour to get everything and everyone back to the bikes. Kostas’s wife prepared for us a table with some delicious traditional cakes and cookies this time and I don’t know about others but I enjoyed a few. mmmm! So delicious!
In a record time we got everything on bikes, moto equipment on us, made photos with Koastas’s family and the sacrificed goat, took the maps Fotis and Kostas bought for us and we were on our way!
First stop Neda River and the waterfalls on Neda River. Awesome tracks and beautiful sceneries. Everywhere we look everything is green and there are so many flowers. I am really impressed by the colors of spring here. Even on tarmac is great and there is not much traffic. It’s like the roads are opened just for us.
We stopped on Neda for a walk to the waterfalls. All but Alex, which had a little problem with oil dripping from our KTM. It seems we had a crack in the rear cylinder cover, a present from the previous owner. So while we were admiring the beautiful waterfalls and the canyon on the Neda River he was getting the bike fixed.
Just as Alex fixed the KTM, Luci started hearing a noise and feeling the frame of his SuperTenere “elastic” and “twisting” a lot. After checking each part of the bike bit by bit he found a crack in the frame, from one side to the other, opened!
Well what can we do? We kept on riding, hoping we can find in a village or town somewhere, someone with a welding machine to help us. Unfortunately we didn’t.
Today we got to see Apollo’s temple and also had a great view over the mountains and valleys from up there.
We rode until late evening for our first day and slept near an olive garden, 30km from Megalopoli. We also called Fotis to give him the big news and hoped he can help us, cause we don’t live anyone behind.
On the 12th of April we woke up feeling refreshed and ready for some welding in Kalamata.
Here we met Fotis, who was so so nice in helping us with a welding machine. And, in the second day of Easter, Alex and Luci were welding a 10mm and a 22mm wrench on the SuperTenere frame in front of Fotis’s apartment building while the rest of us were enjoying coffee, spanakopita and icecream on Kalamata’s see side.
Later, around 13:00, the guys arrived! We were so happy. Everything was ok. But I had a dilemma. 2 of KTM 950, looking exactly the same, which one was my prince charming? ??? Oki, not exactly the same. We have orange frame and Fotis has black frame. ;D
Back to the mountains we went with Fotis as our leader this time. Once we left Kalamata, the road was very beautiful and took us up. So close to the sea and up in the mountains. The view was breathtaking.
We really loved how close the mountains to the sea are in Peloponnese. How steep are the slops and clear and blue is the sea.
I think the photos can talk for themselves, better than me.
We also tried to reach Rindomo Gorge from Pigadia. We did an almost 2h walk up and down the river bed and climb up and down some rocks without reaching the narrow part of the canyon. A bit disappointing. By the end of our week in Peloponnese we will come to find out we were 100m from it when we abandoned hope.

Just before reaching our camping spot for this evening, our friend Maca had a flat tire and we had to stop and fix it, but it was on a beautiful gorge on the road to Sparti. And just as we were waiting a truck full of oranges passes by. We started cheering the oranges! Last year in April we were eating 10kilos of oranges each day in Morocco with the same gang. So the driver stops the truck and ends up giving us one crate of oranges free or charge, he doesn’t want to accept any payment. We were happy like children, running to grab some oranges.
On our way to the camping spot we get to see a glimpse of Mystras and Sparti at sunset, sadly we don’t have time to visit everything.
Fotis had for us a perfect place for camping or sleeping inside for those who didn’t wish to camp. It was this small church near a valley in the Taygetos.
We had a flat spot for the tents and water, tables and also chairs. In the evening we made a little fire and Fotis with Sergiu went to town to get bear and wine. The biggest surprise was Fotis bringing back, for all of us greek food, pita, souvlaki and tzatziki, his treat. It was so sooo good. I am not a meat eater, but I ate it and loved it Thank you so very much Fotis! Hopefully we can do the same for you someday.
We sat around the fire, talked and laughed until late in the night.
The 14th of April and we are going in the Taygetos. Lots and lots of beautiful roads today, going up and down the mountain.

We were having a lot of fun, especially the drivers, when the road suddenly stops. An avalanche has broken the road and a lot of old snow was now covering it, so we had to return and take another. We were excited to see it. We all climbed on it and wonder how it would be to try and go over it. Impossible probably, but fun to try :D
Because Fotis was with us we didn’t want to look like savages, so we left the avalanche and went back.

Now is Fotis’s time to have a flat tire, a front one. Because we are always in a hurry to see and do a lot of things and we don’t have time for everything, each time someone has a flat tire three people help and the rest of us are eating and making sandwiches. We are like a too big family
The descent from Taygetos to Kardamyli is pretty spectacular with steep slops again and lots of curves, with the sea opening at our right. I wish we had some time for trekking around here.

In Kardamyli we stop for a greek coffee, orange pie and to say goodbye to Fotis, who in the short time he spent with us got to be a part of the gang. We had a lot of fun together and we are very happy to have met him.

Fotis, you are expected in the Romanian forests and mountains! Bring along Kostas

From Kardamyli we planned on reaching Cape Tenaro the same day. Impossible task as it was pretty late in the afternoon and we also had to stop for gas and some grocery shopping.
Going for Cape Tenaro on the west coast, we stopped for the night on a remote beach near Mezapos. Beautiful, with white gravel and green/blue water. Too bad it was a bit cold outside for a bath.
The next morning we were determined to reach Cape Tenaro and we almost did. Even if we didn’t actually went by foot to the Lighthouse, again not enough time, the southern part of the “leg” was great seen from above and the water so inviting, was hard to keep everyone away from it, as we had a long way to go.

Next point of interest was the Diros Cave and we were in a big hurry to get to it. On our return we took the road on the coastline and we also passed through Vathia. I forgot to say how much we loved the architecture of the Peloponnese.
Again, we were very excited to take a ride, on a boat this time, through the Diros Cave and it was beautiful and interesting.
But soon we were on our way back to Taygetos.

It seems like the guys fell in love with the tracks here and can’t get enough of them. This time we tried the road from Sparti to Anavryti, going up. It was great fun and awesome view once we got up.

Then we continued our route to the Parnonas Mountains. The weather changed and a bit of rain started falling. It was a bit late, and cold and now rainy. It was almost night time when we reached the katafigio Parnonos and we were on a hury to put our tents up and get warmer clothes on.
The night was not that warm, but I had learned my lesson in Morocco’s mountains, so I had 3 pairs of socks on and almost all the clothes I had with me, I was fiiiine.

We were all happy to go back to the sea, no matter the beauty of the mountain tracks, at least in the first moments of the morning.

Fotis had recommended us the road to Kiparissi as being very beautiful and we took this detour and we did not feel sorry about it. Breathtaking again. We enjoyed the coast and had a coffee on Kiparissi before going back on the beautiful road, this time going up.
Now we had to reach Monemvasia. So the road took us up on the mountain and down on the coastline, and so on all day long. It was great.
1h to see the beautiful city on the rocks and then we’re back on track.
At home we found this place, in the south, near Valtaki where there should be some fossil trees, million years old. We really want to see them.
In the evening we pass Valtaki. On our left we have the sea, on our right we have these beautiful cliffs and a field of rocks detached from the mountain. And then we arrive. The fossil trees. Really amazing formations. I don’t know if they were trees or something else, but they do like like trees.

Here, me and Alex slept outside in our sleeping bags. It was a bit windy, but beautiful. In front of us we had the sea with ships sailing in the night, above we had the clear sky and the stars, at the back we had a tall mountain with a big black cloud on top. It was just the perfect place to be.

When the morning came we were a bit disappointed that we had to go. I really didn’t want to ever leave, but all good things come to an end. If we can look at the bright part it was one last, but full day.
Back to the north! But not before going to see the old underwater town of Pavlo Petri, on the Pounta beach. We knew that it is probably very difficult to see something as it is really underwater, but you can’t really see anything from the shore. We looked around for an hour, talked to some local people and they explained you have to go underwater, oh well :-[
At least we had some fun. Looking for the town we got on this lake bed at Pounta beach, were the guys underestimated the slippery mud, so the result was 4 bikes packed together, each on a side.

From here we ride back to Taygetos, again to try and reach the Rindomo gorge, the narrow canyon we couldn’t find in our first day with Fotis. But riding to Gythio we just saw a shipwreck on our left. Immediately we turned around and went for it. It was exciting. We did not knew how famous it was. It was the first shipwreck I ever saw. Very interesting.
We continued our adventure with a flat tire on a long road full of orange orchards. It was heaven and it smelled divine.
Later, back on the road we took the same path we did at the start of the week with Fotis. Through Taygetos and to Kardamyli and it was just as beautiful as the first time.
Just above Kardamyli our group split in two. 4 of us stayed behind to fix Maca’s many flat tires (after the one in the orange orchard he had 3 more, that day) and the others went to find Rindomo gorge. Me and Alex were in the second group.
We even had some offroad on the rocks bonus track for the participants.
And then, finally, the road that took us to the canyon. It was great.
We found Rindomo gorge late in afternoon and went on foot until we reached his bottom and through it for a while. A deep narrow passage with steep rocky walls and big boulders washed by temporary flows of water. So beautiful and imposing.

But once we reached its bottom, it was only me, Alex, Sebi and Sergiu. We had lost another 3 members if the gang. We left the bikes a bit earlier then Gabi, and he never showed up down on the gorge. It seems that just and we left he noticed Sebi had a flat tire. So Gabi and his wife Dana changed it for him. Ralu also got lost taking pictures and went to the bikes at one point.
As we returned from the gorge the girls were all covered in oil and Gabi had almost finished changing the tire. We were happy. So no more delays. It was already evening.
On the way back we stopped for some olive oil at a small country shop and then we continued to Kalamata.
Because it was already nighttime when we arrived at Kalamata we decided not to continue to Kiparissia until the morning, Sergiu had no front light anyway and it wouldn’t have been too safe for him.
Pretty difficult to find a spot to camp near a city, we thought, and in the dark of the night. We took the road to the sea and just drove along the beach for a while. Soon we saw a trailer park which looked abandoned, but it wasn’t. Some nice older people were camping there and in a perfect English, although they had Greek plate numbers on their homecars, assured us it was safe to sleep in the park and that we should camp really close to them. They were very nice and friendly.
This is where we spent our final night, sleeping in a park, on a beach in Kalamata. Me and Alex slept outside again with some cool dogs)
Last coffee on the gas stove in the parc, another flat tire on the road to Kiparissia and by 11am we were all back at Kostas preparing our cars, this time, for the long journey back to Romania.
Kostas seemed happy to see us :D We gave him some “tuica” as goodbye, alcohol made from plums by my father, and he gave us as gift, olive oil made by him and his family from the orchard and lemons. All delicious, I can assure you.
I wish we didn’t have to leave so soon, we all did. It was a great week. Peloponnese is so beautiful! Everyone we met was nice and friendly, and our hosts were just amazing nice to us and made us feel so welcomed. Thank you very very much to Kostas and Fotis and their families, from all of us.
We are hopeful in a return to Peloponnese someday. Until then, we are waiting for you guys in Romania. If anyone ever finds its way to Cluj-Napoca, Romania we are more than happy to share some rides and share our home with you.
Big hug from everyone!!!
Thank you!
Ramona.

Kostas, Fotis hello! And hello to everybody else!
Long time no see. I hope you guys are alright :) Tell me you plan on coming to Romania also. We have some awesome tracks for you.
Thank you again for your appreciation and for being so kind to us, we talk pretty often of you guys and our time in Peloponnese with our friends.
This year we spent the Easter in Montenegro and Albania with the same gang of friends and it was awesome, but we missed the orange flowers!
I want to ask if I could get some help sending a message to someone from the forum, because I keep sending it and it stills looks like I have no message sent.
Jon t please write me an email at ramona.ienciu@gmail.com if you haven't receive my response. Or is it alright if I post the info you requested here?
In the meantime here I have some pictures from Kirghistan (where Alex went without me, because 3 weeks from our trip I fractured my kneecap riding a bicycle :)). This summer hopefully we will go together.

Greetings from Sunny Siberia! ;)
Found the link to your forum on our website Russian TransAlpers. My name is Alexander, my girlfriend and I are planning to visit you this summer. Yet we plan our trip. What months is it too hot? What better date to choose for a comfortable ride on the bike. What city or place should put in priority? My girlfriend works in tourism and has been several times for work in your country, she loved. While we have the priority of Thessaloniki. But I would like to see more wild places where there are too many buses with tourists ;D. Take a ride on a really beautiful roads and see the country from the inside.
I apologize in advance for my English :-[
PS Very unusual when you register on the forum to see the Greek captcha ??? ;D ;D

Greetings from Sunny Siberia! ;)
Greetings to you too from cloudy Greece!
What months is it too hot?
Between 15 June and 30 August is the usual period that it can get very hot for some days, especially in central and Southern Greece. It also depends on where you want to ride. If you want to ride in Nothern Greek mountains then it' s never too hot!
What better date to choose for a comfortable ride on the bike.
For Southern Greece I would say April and May. For Nothern Greece it's May-June and even July.

But I would like to see more wild places where there are too many buses with tourists ;D. Take a ride on a really beautiful roads and see the country from the inside.
How much time can you spend riding in Greece? 5-15-25 days? Will you have knobby tires or street tires? Will you be using a tent?

Not able to quote text, sorry. I think we will have from 5 to 10 days to Greece. If we get very quickly, even 15, but it's unlikely. We travel with a tent, but sometimes stay in hotels or hostels.

Road tires are Pireli Scorpion, but maybe take and MITAS off-road if needed
